Location
Gorenja vas, Slovenia
A contracted spring monitoring study of amphibians near Gorenja vas, where a road upgrade was planned. The monitoring was conducted between March 15 and May 12, 2025, including nighttime road surveys and daytime inspections of suitable habitats. In addition to recording amphibian sightings along the selected road section and identifying breeding sites, the team reviewed previous surveys and existing environmental data for the area. A comprehensive report was produced with an assessment of the need for additional protective measures for amphibian populations.

This project addresses the increasing number of wild boars and related conflicts, especially damage to agricultural land. In collaboration with Eurofins raziskave okolja Slovenija d.o.o., students are involved in researching the factors that influence wild boar foraging and the dietary preferences of the species, using modern molecular genetic methods such as metabarcoding of environmental samples and feces. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining practical training in the laboratory, field, and computer environment, students contribute to understanding the feeding ecology of wild boars, assessing harmful organisms in their diet, and the biodiversity of affected areas. The project also enables development of innovative methods for assessing wild boar population density, contributing to more effective management of this species in the local environment.
